if your mother 79 years of age with sound mind and body
and spouse is of sound mind and body and her death occurs
in the hospital and you as one of her adult children
would like to get her medical records from the hospital
can her children obtain them or does the spouse have to
sign for them? question #2 if you go to the hospital to
get these records can you demand to wait for xeroxed
copies or can they refuse a short order demand and say
they will mail them to you? if you are skeptical of them
being lost can you watch them xeroxed? what exactly are
our rights as a family? this patient entered the hosp.
for er tx by ambulance for severe thoracic pain and diag.
with gallstones huge kidney stone which they said she
probably had for 20 years and hiatal hernia which they also
said had part of her intestine sucked up in it, all the above
which they said she was full of infection from the kidney.
they said her kidney must come out and her gallbladder.
they transfused with 2 pints fo blood pre-op for anemia
and said her heart was fine and she was in surgery for
6 hours for the removal of gallbladder and kidney on a
thursday. she was doing well 3 days post op. the only
strange thing was she never asked for pain meds. mon.
i called to see how she was doing and was told her condition
had changed. urinary output was depleted and she had
dyspnea. one hour later she coded and was intubated and
died. we were never notified from the hospital about
her condition and later found out she was having trouble
since sat nite 2 days post op. what do you think?
very saddened family
